Fee Discussion (how I am paid for the services I provide)

I am a registered representative of American Portfolios Financial Services, Inc. (APFS) and investment advisor representative of American Portfolios Advisors Inc. (APA) a Securities and Exchange Commission registered investment advisor firm.  Since APFS does operate as a broker-dealer where registered representatives may earn commissions, I must describe my practice as a "fee based" practice rather than a "fee only" practice.  Currently, my practice does focus primarily on investment advisory services where I serve as an Investment Advisor Representative of American Portfolios Advisors and I am compensated by advisory fees rather than by commissions.  For a complete discussion and disclosure of the various services offered through American Portfolios Financial Services, Inc. and American Portfolios Advisors, Inc. and the fees associated with those services, please see our Client Relationship Summary (Form CRS).

Here is a summary of how my fees are currently structured:

  1. Fees for managing investment portfolios are based on a percentage of assets under management and detailed in all proposals and in the advisory agreement.
  2. Ongoing financial planning services are included for fee based investment clients at no additional charge.
  3. Financial planning for non-fee based investment clients is performed on a flat fee, hourly, or retainer basis and detailed in an advisory agreement.
  4. Fees for advisory services on 401(k) plans are based on a percentage of assets under management in the plan and are detailed in ERISA 408(b)(2) disclosures.
  5. For existing clients that continue to hold mutual fund investments or direct variable annuities outside of one of our advisory programs and periodically add funds or have "buy and hold" brokerage accounts where they may occasionally place securities orders, I may receive commissions for this work.
  6. For life or disability income insurance, fixed annuities, and long term care insurance work, I am compensated through commissions.
